Ok, if this is real I'm going to shit my pants. The first emblem is Foo Fighters (?), the second is Mastodon (?), and the third is Queen of the Stone Age (?) ????????? I could be terribly off.

Josh Homme, Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones to close out Lollapalooza at Metro Sunday night
By Jim DeRogatis on August 4, 2009 10:55 AM | Permalink | Comments (3) | TrackBacks (0)
DEVELOPING: Word has yet to officially come down from the Lollapalooza camp, but the buzz is that the Crooked Vultures, a new supergroup featuring Queens of the Stone Age band leader Josh Homme, Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl and the mighty John Paul Jones, Led Zeppelin's legendary bass player, will provide the much-needed icing on the cake largely missing from this year's festival lineup by closing things out with a special intimate after-show Sunday night at Metro.

got mine! tip for everyone else who didn't get a pair. notice that everyone here who got one went through the etix.com website directly, searched for "metro" under venue and hit the link for the event for aug 9.

there is almost always multiple links to events like this. especially when a specific venue or band website (with shitty servers) is trying to sell tickets on their own.

always find the path of least resistance.

in this case, everyone hit the metro website and the link for tickets distributed by metro, lollapalooza and themvultures official webpage and newsletters.

but the tickets were being sold to etix. also following twitter, and comment strings like these is very helpful.

sorry to everyone who didn't have much luck. they will be back soon.

lol, everyone stop complaining. this is totally expected and if you either cared enough to get tickets or have ever tried to get tickets to high-demand intimate gigs like this, you would understand that the server meltdown happens every single time.

as i said, the people who got tickets were the smart ones who went through etix.com and probably went further to have multiple links/paths open in different tabs. they wanted it that badly. did their research and they totally deserve to be there on sunday.

i feel for the ppl who didn't have luck, but stop whining and move on with your day!

just saying there is nothing unexpected about this situation. and anyone who was doing "much work" would have jumped to the etix site the second someone here posted about it. tickets were still available until almost 10:40. i think that shows that people who searched and wanted it and didn't give up or come straight here to complain, got tickets.

There's at least one asshole on Craigslist selling a ticket for $1500. He should have the shit kicked out of him. I could see maybe $100 or $150 (even if I don't agree with it), but ten times as much is just being a dickhead mercenary.

And as far as the guy who said he wanted it "more" -- give me a break. We all tried are damnedest, covering it 80 ways from Sunday. Like the other person said, you didn't want it "more". You were just lucky.

Oh well. I've seen QOTSA with Dave and a million other awesome shows at Metro and other venues like it and smaller. My rock cred is still solid even if I'm going to miss a show that would have made me shit my pants.

And to those here who were kind about their luck and didn't gloat (and hopefully won't scalp their extra), congrats.

11:11 AM

sorry if i did come across as arrogant. i realized i totally did and sounded like a complete ass.

did have the intention to provide some information (a tip?) for future scenarios like this. and i guess i got annoyed by all the complaints about the server issues, although i totally understand the frustration, especially right after they sold out.

sorry to everyone who didn't get tickets and hopefully you have luck finding some without being completely ripped off by scalpers, or get to see them at another show soon.

11:12 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why couldn't ticket sales have been in-person this morning? Or saturday morning? Then we could've all waited in line and then gotten angry and out of control until one or three of us got stabbed by the Hell's Angels hired to provide security. Then they'd make a movie about it.

....aaaaaaaaand scene.

11:13 AM

have fun at the show. look forward to the highlights. and does anyone find it ironic that scalpers are selling "them crooked vultures" tix for 1500?

11:16 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't understand how anyone could sell tickets that they got this morning through ebay. You have to show your confirmation number, actual credit card used to purchase and a photo ID to get into the venue. The dude on Craigslist is dreaming. Anybody know a way around these roadblocks?

11:16 AM
Blogger Varun said...

ugh. that was unfortunate. wish they had played a bigger venue/maybe replaced that beastie boys show at congress. oh well. lollapalooza is going to be a blast regardless.

congrats to those with tickets.

11:17 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

If the craigslist D-bag read the rules... you need to show the credit card used to purchase the tickets and a photo ID before they hand over the tickets. You don't get your tickets until you're inside the building. Once inside...you can't leave. There's no way to sell the tickets you purchased to another person, unless they look just like you and have your credit card in hand.

11:21 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I went through the ETix website and I was still getting nonsense errors. "Choose a different price code"? There's only one price code, moron.

Damn ridiculous. And how are people going to scalp these? They are non-transferable tickets only available through will-call that requires ID and the credit card you used when you go to the door.

11:28 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think the reason they weren't in person was that it guaranteed that half the venue would be filled with people that going and therefore could not be sold on the secondary market. In person sales would also run the risk of a riot outside the box office which in my opinion would have been something to see this morning. I'm sure if someone legitimately had an extra they're willing to part with they'd throw it on eBay because through craigslist you're bound to get shot charging $1500 a ticket haha. I'm bummed I didn't get tickets but if anyone finds out that they held some for show day or something along those lines please post it! Hopefully I hit the lottery tonight and can buy that $3000 one on eBay in the morning haha.

11:32 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think the CL guy is only attempting to sell his extra ticket (not both) -- i.e. brings in the $1500 sucker as his "guest". People pulled this crap at the Obama rally.

Anyway, I called Metro and the nice girl there said that she wasn't sure why the etix site said to contact the venue but the show is indeed sold out.

Sorry kids. And yes, it should have been done at the Riv or something based on the amount of comps they are probably handing out alone for industry people in town for Lolla.
